Meet Dr Pramod: Pioneering Excellence in Paediatrics

With an illustrious career spanning four decades, Dr. Pramod Jog has left an indelible mark on the field of paediatrics. His unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of India’s children goes beyond the call of duty. As a national leader in paediatrics, he has pioneered child and maternal health programs that have positively impacted millions of young lives.

In 1984, Dr. Jog conceived and executed the groundbreaking “Goodbye Polio” program in Pune and its suburbs. Twelve years later, this initiative served as the blueprint for India’s highly successful national Pulse Polio campaign, ultimately leading to the eradication of polio in the country—a model admired worldwide.

Dr. Jog’s leadership extends beyond clinical practice. He served as the President of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics in 2016 and holds the position of Professor of Paediatrics at D.Y. Patil Medical College in Pune. His contributions also include membership in the Steering Committee of GAVI (CSO) from 2016 to 2019 and active participation in the International Paediatric Association (IPA) as a Standing Committee Member during the same period. Additionally, he chaired the IAP Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Immunization Practices (ACVIP) from 2015 to 2017.

A gifted orator and dedicated medical educator, Dr. Jog has delivered over 3000 speeches at national and international paediatric conferences. His scholarly work includes numerous publications in prestigious journals, as well as chapters in paediatric textbooks covering infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and vaccinology. Since 1985, he has served as the Editor of The Paediatric Review Journal and has authored books on Paediatrics & parenting.

Dr. Jog’s impact extends beyond academia. As the National Trainer for various Indian Academy of Paediatrics programs, he has organised conferences and received several prestigious awards. Notably, he was recognized as the Best Outgoing Student of B.J. Medical College, Pune, in 1980. His exceptional performance in the ‘ADVAC’ program at Annecy, France, earned him the coveted Plotkin’s Prize in May 2011. The Central IMA (Indian Medical Association) honored him with the R.K. Menda Award for outstanding community service in 1995, and the IMA (Maharashtra) bestowed the Suresh Nadkarni Award for health education medical write-ups in 1996. Dr. Jog’s dedication to breastfeeding promotion earned him two gold medals from the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI).

Beyond medicine, Dr. Jog is a polymath. He has proficiency in Sanskrit, French, and Spanish. has enriched his understanding of Ayurveda and Yoga. Leveraging the understanding of Ayurveda and Yoga, he established a centre for asthma research, pioneering an interdisciplinary approach to treating childhood asthma.

Dr. Pramod Jog’s legacy is one of compassion, innovation, and tireless advocacy for the health of India’s youngest citizens.

His contributions continue to inspire generations of paediatricians and serve as a beacon of hope for a healthier future.
